Amazon PPC Management - Launching Keywords

Full Question

Hi Heath

I sometimes see Amazon products with keywords in their search URLs. Can you describe how to do that, please?

Answer

Sure, the Amazon algorithm usually places five descriptive words from your title into its catalog URL. This means that if you created a regular title of say 150-249 characters long, the algorithm will have quite a choice of words to enter into your URL address, and that might not be great if the words it chooses aren't optimal.

Why is this an issue?

Around 25% of searches occur on Search Engines such as Google and not on Amazon. One of the key areas indexed for keyword matching and, therefore, search retrieval results, is your product's Canonical URL address.

After studying the algorithms for eight years, I discovered a way to control those keywords and decide their order so you can be 100% sure to match your URL to the full search phrases shoppers are using to find products.

HERE IS THE PROCESS

Let's say that you are selling a silicone dog brush that is good for big hairy dogs and "blue" is the colour most buyers choose. When first entering your product into Amazon's inventory you would write the title like so...

Silicone-dog-brush-big-hairy-dogs-colour-blue

Or something like that.

The hyphens convince the algorithm that there is only one keyword in your title, so it is places all of those words into your URL.

Here's a bad example:

Amazon.com/Scrubber-Adjustable-Suitable-Deshedding-Massaging/dp/B0D6BGXXXX

Using the above process, your ASIN would look like this:

I hope that tip helps.

NOTE: If you already have a suboptimal canonical URL address for a current ASIN, you can ask Seller Support to update it to the keywords that you want. Most support agents don't think it can be done; however, keep asking until you find one that will.
